Barbara Atkins is immensely skilled at juggling what comes her way. Her husband’s 26 years on active military duty meant frequent relocation and her years as a working mother pinched her time for volunteer activities but she has bloomed wherever planted supporting to school functions, church activities, team mother, homeowners’ associations, military wives clubs, etc.
Her retirement in December, 2011 opened the door to even greater community engagement and use of her skills. She is keenly attentive to detail and readily grasps the “big picture”, talents that well support her work as clerk for her church, her engagement on several HOA boards, and her role as President of the Bastrop Senior Center. She is active in the TRIAD program—a partnership initiative of the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, the Bastrop Police and the Bastrop Senior Center—to identify issues impacting senior citizens and have just completed the Citizen Combined Academies training. Barbara energies and commitment to community service also encompass several years as a Food Pantry volunteer; she is currently the Pantry’s Board Secretary.
