Exciting News: Groundbreaking for the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry’s New Facility!
We are thrilled to share some incredible news about the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry’s capital campaign and the groundbreaking ceremony for our new facility, which took place on February 14. Despite the rain, more than 50 dedicated supporters gathered with us to mark this significant moment, demonstrating the unwavering commitment of our community to bring an end to hunger.
A Major Step Forward: The New Facility
We have officially broken ground on a 9,200-square-foot facility, which will double our food storage and distribution capacity. This expansion is essential for meeting the growing needs of Bastrop County, as we are currently serving over 5,000 neighbors and distributing nearly half a million pounds of food annually. With the new facility, we will be able to store and distribute up to 1 million pounds of food each year, greatly increasing our ability to provide support to individuals and families in need.
This new space is not just a building—it’s an investment in the future of our community. As our county grows, so does the demand for our services, and this expansion will ensure that we can continue to provide for our neighbors in need. The new facility will allow us to respond to emergencies like fires and floods more efficiently and most importantly to build long-term solutions for ending hunger in Bastrop County.
A Challenge Grant from the Mabee Foundation
In addition to the excitement of the groundbreaking, we have received some fantastic news: The Mabee Foundation has issued a challenge grant to the Food Pantry. They are challenging us to raise $976,044 by July 2025. If we reach this goal, the Mabee Foundation will grant us $650,000—the final amount needed to complete our capital campaign! This is an incredible opportunity to maximize the impact of every dollar donated between now and July.
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we have already raised 48% of our goal. This is a huge step forward, but we still need your help to meet the challenge. Every dollar donated will effectively be doubled by the Mabee Foundation, helping us reach our target faster and ensuring that we can continue serving our community at an even greater capacity.
The Impact on the Community
This expansion is about more than just more space—it’s about creating lasting, meaningful change. The new facility will be a game-changer for the Food Pantry, allowing us to serve even more families, expand our programs, and provide essential services to our neighbors in need. It’s an investment in the future of Bastrop County, ensuring that we can continue to respond to the needs of our growing community for years to come.

We need your support to make it a reality. We are so close to reaching our goal, and we are confident that with your help, we can meet the Mabee Foundation’s challenge and finish the fundraising campaign strong.

Every dollar you donate between now and July will effectively be doubled and will bring us one step closer to completing our new facility.
