Fighting Hunger in Our Backyard: Join Bastrop’s 3rd Annual Citywide Food Drive

In a time of record-breaking need, the City of Bastrop and the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry are once again joining forces for the 3rd Annual Citywide Food Drive — and your help is needed now more than ever.

In just the first five months of 2025, the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry has served more than 3,000 of our neighbors! 

This marks the third consecutive year of record-high demand in Bastrop County. Families, seniors, and children are struggling to keep food on the table. And this crisis isn’t limited to our area. Statewide, the numbers are just as sobering:

  • 1 in 6 Texas households is food insecure
  • 5.1 million Texans, including nearly 1 in 4 children, are at risk of hunger
  • Texas seniors face the 8th highest food insecurity rate in the country

To combat this urgent need, the city has set a bold goal: collect 3,000 pounds of food during this year’s drive. You can be a part of the solution by donating shelf-stable, nutritious items that will go directly to local families in need. The most needed food items include:

  • Canned soup
  • Canned chili
  • Dried fruit
  • Canned tomatoes
  • Canned green beans
  • Packaged nuts
  • Pasta sauce
  • Canned meat (like tuna or chicken)
  • Crackers
  • Peanut butter
  • Plastic bottles of jelly
  • Canned pasta meals (like Ravioli or Spaghetti O’s)

Convenient drop-off locations are available throughout Bastrop:

  • Bastrop City Hall
  • Bastrop Police Department
  • Bastrop Public Library
  • Bastrop Recreation Center

Each donation brings us closer to our goal — and provides real, tangible help to someone in our community. Let’s rally as a community to ensure that no one in Bastrop County has to go hungry.
