Due to rising gas and food prices nationwide, demand at food banks increasing as food donations are on the decline.

he went in to pick up food from the Capital Area Food Bank. This
is the story he told regarding our continuing promise to help feed
Bastrop County despite rising fuel costs which have become a
major drain on our funds.

For Your Information
Many people who are eligible for food stamps neither realize it nor apply. In Bastrop County you may go to the Department of Human Services on Loop 150/Hwy 21 and apply. Drop by and fill out an application to schedule an interview with a representative.
Documents Needed with Food Stamp Application
Proof of Identity, residency and financial need are necessary to determine eligibility for food stamps. You do not need everything on this list, only the items that pertain to you. Bring them with you to your food stamp interview.
Identifying Information
- Drivers License
- Birth Certificate
- Work or School identification card
- Health benefits identification card
- Voter registration card
- Divorce or separation decree
- Immigration and naturalization papers
(Not required if you are not eligible to receive food stamp benefits but are applying for your children who were born in the United States)Proof of Residency
- Utility bills
- Rent or mortgage receipts
- Library card with address
Financial Status
- Pay Stubs
- Income tax forms
- Self employment bookkeeping records
- Bank Statement
- Benefit award letter
- Unemployment compensation award letter
- Court order or other legal document for child support payments
- Canceled checks for child support payment
- Statement from person to whom child support payments are made
- Statements from child/adult care provider
- Paid receipts for child support payments
- Canceled checks for child/adult care payments
- Other proof of financial worth
Households with elderly or disabled members only
- Medical bills
- Itemized receipts for medical costs
- Repayment agreement with physician
- Medicare card showing “Part B” coverage
