Food Pantry Support and Fundraising Events
National Hunger Awareness Month
Right now, more than 36 million Americans aren't even sure where they will get their next meal. Imagine not knowing how or where, or even when, you will eat again.
National Hunger Awareness Day, established 9 years ago, is the grassroots movement to raise awareness about the problem of hunger in America. This year it has been expanded to last the entire month of September. Various activities and educational programs will take place in communities across the nation.
Previously, The Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry & Support Center participated in The National Hunger Awareness Day by placing a brightly decorated donation can on the front lawn at our location so that people in our community could drop off non-perishable food items.

We "can" end hunger!
Empty Bowl Project
Held in February, this fundraising effort is literally "designed" to raise awareness and funds for the Food Pantry. Attendees of the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry & Support Center's Empty Bowl Project choose a bowl, handcrafted by BISD elementary students under the guidance of the Art Teachers. They may then enjoy the many soups presented by local restaurants along with homemade breads baked and donated by the ladies of EEA. Delicious Ice teas are donated as well. This simple meal of soup and bread represents the not so simple problem of hunger in Bastrop County, our country and the world.
On the lighter side there will be entertainment and a silent auction offering to the highest bidder beautiful handcrafted bowls by local artists along with celebrity bowls. You will be greeted by the many volunteers, board members and staff of the Pantry to enjoy a day of fellowship, fun and great food. Our soup contest categories are Best Presentation, Best Overall, Best Amateur and Specialty Categories based on entries.
Annual Gala
The Annual Gala is a themed event held every August to raise funds for The Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry & Support Center. In addition to a night of dancing and merriment, a sumptuous sit-down dinner, refreshments, enticing musical entertainment, and ever-growing silent and live auctions round out the night.
Our 2008 Hula in the Pines Gala was a huge success, our best ever. It drew 260 supporters to the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort to enjoy the music of Austin based Reunion Band. The event raised over $50K! The live and silent auction added new spark to the event and will remain a part of the annual fundraiser.
